The Challenge
A good IT system is an essential element in delivering first-class medical care in today’s world. But Ocean Medical’s investment in physical servers on the premises was proving to be a constraint on the business.
The servers were ageing, and struggling to cope with the demands of running a busy practice. Server crashes became a daily occurrence, and that caused a number of problems – including delays in checking patients in or out. Staff were unable to work efficiently, and this had a negative effect on patient management and the day-to-day running of the business.
It was clear that it was time for Ocean Medical to upgrade to a new infrastructure, including better servers and computers. And due to the sensitive and private nature of the data, the new system had to deliver a high level of security, as well as complying with the demanding regulations imposed on practice by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
The Solution

After analyzing the options, CyberDuo recommended moving from an on-premises setup to a cloud-based solution. The network equipment was upgraded, and all data was migrated to Microsoft Azure, the world-leading cloud system from Microsoft.
The Results
The impact on the practice was immediate. Ocean Medical employees were able to work much faster, and the problem of crashing servers was eliminated. Waiting times for patients were cut to a minimum, leading to increased patient satisfaction levels.
The new system also allowed many staff members to work from home. As well as providing increased flexibility, this proved invaluable at times when social distancing became necessary.
Most important of all, perhaps, patient data is now protected with greater security than ever before. Patients, staff and management can rest easy, knowing that data is protected.
